Cally Kordaris, Artistic Director, graduated as a dance major in 1984 from LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts. Her dance training was focused on classical ballet, but included modern, flamenco, tap, jazz and Greek Folk dance.

 

Cally studied with Maggie Black, Nancy Bielski and David Howard, as well as Pearl Lang and Anna Sokolow. At age 16, Cally began dancing professionally with Ronald Sequoio in his Dance Compass Company. For 33 years, Ms Kordaris was Artistic Director and Choreographer of Callina's School of Dance in Long Island City, New York. From 1991 through 1999, she directed the Odyssey Dance Company, and as Artistic Director, choreographed and produced dance events at Florence Gould Hall, Merce Cunningham Studios, Central Park Loeb Boat House and more. From 1988-1998, Cally co-directed the Omeros Hellenic Dance Company. In 1999 Cally produced and choreographed RIZES at LeFrak Concert Hall, a multimedia event including live music and projection, merging her professional ballet company and her professional folk company. Over the years, Ms. Kordaris has worked as a choreographer with dancers such as Darla Hoover (NYCB), Victor Quijada (RUBBERBANDance), So Young An (Korea National Ballet, Buglisi, Martha Graham), Jason Jordan (Elliot Feld, Buglisi), Nickemil Conception (Cedar Lake), Hanan Misko (Met Opera), Milan Misko (Jessica Lang)  and Anne O’Donnell (Martha  Graham).  In 2007, Ms. Kordaris received the Art History Award from Queens College. In 2008 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Queens College.

For the past fifteen years, Ms. Kordaris has devoted herself to creating a space where Dance, Art History and Nature may be studied and experienced together. As a choreographer, Art History major and garden enthusiast, she hopes to create workshops that give individuals a full understanding of the vision of Cold Spring Dance.

So Young An, Associate Artistic Director, originally from South Korea, has been collaborating with Cally Kordaris for the past ten years. Ms. An is the recipient of the International Arts Award and the Grand Prize at the Korea National Ballet Grand Prix.  Ms. An has danced with Korean National Ballet Company, Seoul Performing Arts Company and Buglisi Dance Theatre. She has also performed works by Yuri Grigorovich, Jean-Christophe Maillot, Mats Ek, Patricia Ruanne and Samantha Dunster. So Young An is currently working as a lead dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company.
